My background as a lover of fabric and threads stems from my childhood but it expanded rapidly when I began the City and Guilds Creative Embroidery course. For four years, my fellow students and I were introduced to techniques and materials I had never even dreamed of in connection with needle and thread. Design, colour, texture, traditional stitching and free machine embroidery, as well as paper, felt and cord making filled our days – what revelations.
After qualifying, a group of us went on to form an exhibiting group called Broderie Alba and had several successful exhibitions around Scotland. Since then I have continued my love affair with textiles, producing hand sewn soft furnishings and producing work for exhibitions. After moving to Newtonmore from Perthshire, I have achieved a long held dream, setting up my own workshop where I can teach others and produce my own work. My own little bit of heaven!
